Dear Ones:
There is One who is constantly speaking…our Maker, Redeemer, Savior, Friend. But do we hear Him? In Psalms 19, the psalmist writes: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth forth His handiwork. Day unto day UTTERETH SPEECH, and night unto night knowledge. There is no speech nor language (no language group of people on the face of the earth), where THEIR SPEECH IS NOT HEARD.” (v.1-3) What is the psalmist saying here? It is that God is speaking at every moment of every day through His creation, speaking concerning “…the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world (which) are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power, and Godhead.” (Romans 1:20) Are we listening, hearing, and acting upon that which we hear?
Jesus would often use the phrase, “…who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matt. 13:9) Many people HEARD the physical voice of Christ. They were amazed by the wisdom, power, and authority with which He spoke. But there were not many who TRULY HEARD, whose hearts were “good ground,” and who responded to that which was spoken. Why was there such a difference between those who “had” and those who “had not,” those who heard the same words from Christ, yet whose reaction to those words was so very different? The answer resides in the simple word, “believe.” Those who were willing to hear His words, and who truly believed them, believed that the ONE who was speaking was indeed the Son of God, the Savior of the World. They were listening, not to be intrigued or entertained, but to live BY the “speech,” those words from the heart and lips of Christ, inspired by God the Father, and given in the power and demonstration of the Spirit of God.
In our day and time, there are many voices. And indeed, as technology increases, the number of voices increases. But which of these voices gives eternal Life? Which of these voices can forgive sins? Which of these voices can give eternal purpose and peace? There is only one, and it is the One whose voice is speaking every day through the creation. He is speaking also every day through His written word. Are we listening…truly listening, in order to believe, trust and obey? What is He saying to our hearts today? “If any man HEAR MY VOICE, and open the door, I WILL come into him and sup with him and he with Me.” (Rev. 3:20) What a tremendous privilege and responsibility to have fellowship with God, to know Him, to love and to serve Him. If we WILL hear, and respond, He will do exactly as He says. He has declared it.
Love, Dad
