Dear Ones:
How many are the promises of God with respect to being instructed, and led by Him? Psalm 25 and 32 are filled with verses which declare this reality. Why is it then that some times it is so difficult to know the way, to make the right choice? In all certainty the cause of this problem does not lie with God…for WE can be the problem.
The most important thing in guidance is the knowledge of God. Who is He truly, and on the basis of this knowledge, can we believe Him to guide us, and this, clearly and assuredly? Jesus always used the method of revealing WHO He was, and then called for the commitment of faith. Is He able? Can he make the way as the sound of the trumpet, resoundingly and powerfully clear? One thing is certain, and that is, if the “sound” is not clear, we will not move…or should not. But what are the keys for clarity?
First, there must be a complete willingness to DO the will of God. In other words, there must be the total relinquishing of the control of my life to God. He becomes Lord, King, Guide, and Counsellor. We are His servants, His sons and daughters. Remember that the mule, as well as a goat, has a stubborn will of their own. It is to those who are willing to be led, that He intervenes to lead…and this with assurance, and His peace.
Secondly, there must be a deliberate seeking of God for direction. James in his epistle is very clear about this…”If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God…we have not because we ask not…” If we do not seek, we will not find. In every aspect of the Christian life, we are called to give Christ access. “Commit your way unto the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.” (Ps. 37.5)
When the matter becomes clear, based on the Word of God, and the conviction with His peace pervades the heart, then there will come a point, a moment, a day, when the Lord will reveal that the time has come to go forward. When Israel was on the edge of the Red Sea, with the Egyptian army pressing in upon them, Moses cried unto the Lord. The Lord’s answer: “Wherefore criest thou unto Me? Speak unto the children of Israel that they GO FORWARD.” (Ex. 14:15) The time had come to simply “go forward.” There came a day, when Israel was in the wilderness that the Lord spoke to Moses and the people, “You have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.” (Deut. 2:3) There will come a day when, in response to the clear direction of God, we must go forward, we must stop going around the mountain, and “turn northward.”
So, today, may we “go forward,” committing our way unto the Lord, trusting also in Him, let us remember that, HE WILL DO IT…He is faithful. May we live in the expectation of His intervention and guidance, for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
