“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
What is the basis for believing that God will meet all the needs of his child, the servant of Christ, as the believer begins every day, a day which possesses eternal results and effects? The answer begins in the mind and heart of God when He devised the plan by which He would redeem men from sin making new creations of lost souls. Though essential to know God, it was not enough that man just be forgiven his sins by a holy God. He needed a new heart, becoming truly a living soul by the power of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, so that by prayer and faith he could receive God’s highest blessing, and this on a daily, even moment by moment basis. What is this blessing which surpasses all others in scope, magnitude, power and love? It is Christ Himself, the “first born from the dead,” in whom by the Father’s predetermined will, “…that in Him all the fulness should dwell.” (Col. 1:19) What does this mean?
Christ is declared by the Apostle Paul to be, “…the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of creation.” Not only was He the “…the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, upholding all things by the word of His power,” (Heb. 1:2.3), but “…by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth.” (Col. 1:16) Paul continues: “He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (v. 17) It is one thing to see Jesus of Nazareth, clothed in humility and lowliness, although always revealing the very nature of the Father. It is quite another to see Him in His glory, having put off the limitations and weaknesses of the things of earth, to be again living in the fulness of the glory of His Father as the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. It is on the basis of what Christ is, was, and evermore shall be, that the believer can begin to grasp something of the immeasurable beauty of the blessing of knowing Him and being known by Him.
When the Apostle Paul wrote the letter to the believers at Ephesus, he began by declaring: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ.” (1:3) Why does the Apostle write this? It is because he is seeking to lift up the believer to heights of truth and blessing that he has not yet known, in great part because he has not yet seen and grasped the magnitude of the truth, in order to trust God for its realization in his life. Paul begins with creating a clear vision, a true perception of that which is true and accomplished in the eyes of God, concerning the great salvation which He has provided for every man. The receiving of such blessing begins with an objective knowledge of the truth. Then there comes the moment when faith lays hold upon God for the effective realization of it in the life of the believer. The call of God to sinful man, specifically the true believer in Christ, is to communion with God, with Christ. The word “communion” speaks of sharing the same truth, life, power, light and love. In the case of the believer in Christ, it is not the contribution of anything that is of the flesh, the world, sin or Satan. It is that which God gives, and this freely, to the one who will truly and willingly receive it by faith. For the believer, it is a fellowship with Christ as his life. All the “springs” of life are in Christ, to live from, by, and for Him. It is communion with Christ, with God, a oneness of mind, heart, and life, to be known, lived, and given to all around by virtue of the fragrance of Christ’s presence, and the living, saving words of faith.
Dear Father, Show forth Thy blessing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
