“And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?” John 11:26
Dear Ones:
To choose not to believe in God is to automatically deny and reject several things. The first is the denial of “creation.” It is the refusal to embrace the reality of not only “intelligent design” in the bringing about of all that we know of this earth and universe, it is the refusal to declare that there is something, or Someone, which is good, who has brought all into existence. There is the denial and rejection of the laws of physics, the basic one being that of cause and effect. There can be no effect, no “something” out of nothing, unless there is a Cause. What makes this position of unbelief so untenable is the fact also that there is beauty in this “creation” that only a benevolent, and good God could conceive and bring into existence. Every aspect of nature in its intricateness, variations, and fathomless beauty and order, speak of One who has designed, and brought into being “…His handy work.” With regard to the universe, as the Psalmist declares: “The heavens declare the glory of God.” (Ps. 19:1) How can the universe be so extensive, with so much that is in it, so ordered and kept in place, that one will refuse to believe that God in His power brought it into existence, and maintains it. The problem with unbelief in this regard stems from pride, a pride that says that man must understand the earth and the heavens, before he will believe. Man will NEVER fully understand the vastness, the dimensions, of the knowledge of God in creation. Even that which we do know is infinitely small compared with the whole. How foolish it would be to base, not only one’s life in an attitude of unbelief, and be willing to gamble with the certainty, and effects of death. Pride is the great culprit here, the thought in man’s heart, that he MUST know, and understand that which is beyond his grasp, before believing in a Creator that is good, who possesses a beauty that cannot be described by words.
Secondly, to choose not to believe in God is also the rejection of all things pertaining to the Bible, the testimony of God throughout the centuries, and the pinnacle of God’s revelation of Himself to man in His Son. If the greatness and intricateness of creation is not enough to convince the inquiring soul, then one wonders what the unbeliever will do with the prophetic testimony of the coming of Jesus Christ to die on Calvary. His coming as the Son of God, the Lamb of God, to deal with all the sins of the world, has been declared from the early pages in the book of Genesis, written about thirty-four hundred years ago, continuing into the New Testament. Just like the creation of the world, where one cannot grasp the vastness of “possibilities” concerning creation’s design and principles, so the prophetic record throughout Scripture, which describes in unmistakable detail Christ’s coming, death, and resurrection, cannot be ignored. To refuse to believe in the God of the Bible, in the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in Jesus Christ Himself, is to reject and renounce the testimony of God in the Scriptures. It is to deny and refuse to acknowledge that the Bible is true, and the testimony of God therein is valid.
Thirdly, to choose not to believe in God is to reject all that is good, wholesome, with the accompanying blessings, which Christ has promised and provided, through the church, His living body. It means that one rejects the good influences through individual Christians, who have shown compassion, love, and mercy, throughout the centuries, proclaiming that God is good, gracious, and willing to save individuals. The unbeliever who rejects the testimony of God by the lives of those who truly believe in Christ, declares by his attitude, that he believes all believers are deceived, that Christ is a liar, and the whole “God-thing” is false, and non-existent. Faith that saves is faith that embraces Christ.
Father, Give us all grace to unreservedly believe in Thee. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love, Dad
