“To this end (purpose) was I born, and for this cause came I unto the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.” John 18:37
Dear Ones:
Perhaps the greatest questions that we must resolve in our hearts and minds are these: “Is what Jesus said true, and, was He in His essence the perfect expression of that truth?” Why is the answer to these questions so very important? Simply put, if He IS the absolute truth, and what He says is true, then we must understand that He requires the entire commitment of ourselves, for time and eternity, to Him as Creator and Redeemer. This means that we choose Him to BE the very bedrock, and object of our whole trust, even in the face of an unbelieving and mocking world.
In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, he unveils the great warfare that is going on for the minds and hearts of men. In essence, it is a battle for the knowledge of truth, specifically as it pertains to God. In opposition to the truth are the imaginations, speculations, and “every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.” (10:5) Paul writes of the necessity of pulling down these strongholds of lies and deceptions, and replacing them with truth. Jesus once told his disciples: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (Jn. 8:32) He goes on to say, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.” (v.36) God uses the knowledge of the truth to bring men and women, boys and girls, to saving faith. He also uses the truth to set us free from the bondage brought about by the philosophies and imaginations of men. God ALWAYS works according to the truth of His nature, expressed in and by His words.
It was G. Campbell Morgan, who wrote: “God rides best in His own chariot.” What is that chariot? It is the truth, as revealed in the word of God. The objective knowledge of the truth is essential, if we would worship God in “Spirit and truth.” If Christ is be a reality to us, then we must embrace the truth of Him, and Him, as our truth…taking our stand by faith on the certainty of His immutable life. This is freedom, living according to the truth, dependent upon Him that IS the truth.
Dear Father, We thank Thee for the revelation of Thyself in the person of Christ. We thank Thee for the gift of the knowledge of the truth as revealed in Your word. Strengthen our hearts to take our stand upon Thy word, trusting Thee alone for time and eternity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Love, Dad
