“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:3
Dear Ones:
There is a magnificent association between the person of God and His spoken word. In fact, the word of God, declared to be LIVING (Life giving), is the very manifestation and expression of His heart, character, purpose and will. There is absolutely no inconsistency or contradiction between who God IS and what He SAYS. The problem with reconciling “apparent” differences, rises from the our limitations to understand the fathomless wisdom of God. Let us defer immediately to the words of the Apostle Paul to substantiate this reality: “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33)
An analysis of what God says concerning His word reveals to us the value, importance, and effective working of God according to the word. In Isaiah 55, He declares: “So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (v.11) What is it that we discover here concerning the relationship of God’s word, and His use of it? THAT WHICH HE DECLARES IS THE EXPRESSION OF WHO AND WHAT HE IS. He is the originator of the Word, and the very sovereign power of that word. It is a word with a purpose, and because of God’s power and authority, He will not only honor the word as the God who speaks truth and IS truth, He will also accomplish it in His wisdom, time, and way.
In the book of Hebrews, there is a description of what the word IS, and how it works. “For the word of God is quick (life-giving), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (4:12) Because of the association of the person of God and His word, that word is “Life-giving” It is so applicable to the individual life in its power, and capacity to reveal the truth and nature of men’s thoughts and intents, that it reaches down to the very soul and spirit of men. Herein is the beauty, majesty, and fathomless wisdom of the word of God; it not only declares and accomplishes the creation of the world and everything in it, but deals ever so quietly, and profoundly, with the conscience of man. In other words, the Eternal God, in Christ, by the Spirit, speaks to the heart of man, in order to bring him to a true understanding of who He is, and what He desires and wills to do in his life.
Perhaps the greatest summation in Scripture which reveals the association of the spoken word with the very nature and purpose of God, is found in the gospel of John, chapter 1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” (v.1) The author, once establishing the validity and power of the Word of God, and the Living Word, Christ, goes on to declare: “All things were made by Him,” (v.3) and “In Him was LIFE, and the Life was the light of men.” (v.3,4) Herein is Life, Power, Design, Wisdom, Faithfulness. The importance of knowing and believing the word of God is essential if we would truly KNOW the God of the word.
Dear Father, with regard to the worth and authority of Thy word, give us to see its weight and magnitude. Open our eyes to see, and to grasp, that it is by Thy Word that you move, work, and manifest Thy glory. Strengthen us to daily lay hold of Thee by knowing, believing, and obeying Thy word. We praise and thank Thee, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love, Dad
