“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?…when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Job 38:4,7
Dear Ones:
When God spoke creation into existence, we do not know the volume or the power of His voice. What we do know is that the creation of this world and universe, came into existence. We also know that there was great joy in heaven because of the glorious manifestation of Gods’ glory, His wisdom and power, for the sons of God shouted for joy. The manner and intensity with which the voice of God speaks, is as original and unique as God Himself. To some He has spoken, as with a “still small voice.” To others, His voice sounded like thunder, or the sound “…of mighty waters.” To the woman caught in adultery, the Lord Jesus’ voice was very gracious, firm and tender: “Woman, where are your accusers? Hath no man condemned you? Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.” (Jn. 8:10,11) To another He would say very compassionately, “Go your way, your faith has made you whole.” And to another with resolute authority, “Arise, take up your bed and walk.” The point is that God speaks different words to different people, in a way that is appropriate for the circumstance, and condition of the heart. Secondly, it is not just an issue of the manner with which He spoke, but the power and authority which was IN the words He spoke. As it was in the creation of the world, by His Word, so it was in Jesus’ day. When He spoke, there was the power of God to accomplish completely and exactly what He proclaimed. The same is true of Him in His dealings with us, today.
It is essential for us to understand and grasp that, when God speaks, in whatever manner or form, and always according to His word, there WILL be an effect, a result. The measure of that effect in the individual life is based to a great extent on one’s faith. “According to your faith be it done unto you.” (Matt. 9:29) The basis of this faith is found in the knowledge of Who God is, and understanding exactly what He is saying to our hearts.
“So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall NOT return unto Me void, but it SHALL accomplish that which I please, and it SHALL prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Is. 55:11) Nothing is so certain than the fact that God speaks to creation, to us as a part of that creation, and specifically to the individual heart. The question is today, “What is He saying to my heart?” And, “What will He accomplish in my heart, and in those for whom we pray?”
Dear Father, when You speak, whether with a still small voice, or as the sound of many waters, give us grace to truly hear. Give us grace to understand clearly what You are saying, with the conviction and enablement to BELIEVE You to work wonderfully, for You only do wondrous things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love, Dad
