My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“And immediately I was in the Spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” Revelation 4:2 Dear Ones: The vision of the throne of God, as revealed throughout Scripture, is a very sobering one. For the believer, it is a subject of great comfort and strength. For the…
“And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.” 1 Samuel 3:21 Dear Ones: It is true that God manifests His glory in different ways, to different people, in different circumstances. Moses saw the glory of God from the cleft in the…
“And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, ‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39 Dear Ones: When Paul writes of the peace of God, that wonderful fruit, and manifestation, of the life of Christ by the Spirit, he writes: “…And the peace…
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature.” 2 Peter 1:4 Dear Ones: The “promise of the Father,” of which the Lord Jesus spoke, being assembled with the disciples after the resurrection, certainly had its origin in the Father before the world…
“There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?” John 6:9 Dear Ones: God has many ways to teach us of Himself, who He is, and what He does. Through Solomon, He revealed His wisdom. Through Samson, God’s power and strength were demonstrated. …
“…and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in His strength.” Revelation 1:16 Dear Ones: The Bible has a lot to say about swords, especially in the Old Testament, when one considers the battles that were fought between Israel and her enemies. But there are…
“Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.” Zechariah 10:1 Dear Ones: In the book of James, we read a brief summation of Elijah’s dealing with a three and a…
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:15 Dear Ones: Paul has a great deal to say about the spiritual warfare we are in, specifically because it is the same warfare that Christ knew, and knows. In the letter to the Ephesian believers,…
“Therefore I say unto you, ‘What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Mark 11:24 Dear Ones: Perhaps one of the greatest “proofs” of a life truly lived by faith, in obedience to Christ, is answerer prayer. It is also one of the most difficult…
“And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” Luke 13:16 Dear Ones: It came about in the ministry of the Lord Jesus, that a woman came to him, “…which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years.”…
