My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

The New Beginning

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” Isaiah 43:19 Dear Ones: The whole concept, implementation, and realization of the “new thing” begins with God.  Note that He says in Isaiah:  “Behold, I will do a new thing.”  It is imperative at the outset of our…

The Certainty Of Hope

“…in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.” Hebrews 6:18 Dear Ones: Hope is all about certainty, and our response to the promises of God based upon His character.  In Hebrews 6, Scripture speaks…

The God Of The Previous

“…And this He said to prove (test) him: for He Himself knew what He would do.” John 6:6 Dear Ones: God is always previous.  Not only does this apply to circumstances, but even to the words of our mouths.  The Psalmist wrote:  “For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord,…

The Problem With Perfection

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48 Dear Ones: The issue of perfection is a real problem…that is, for us who live in this world.  It is a problem because there are laws, physical and spiritual, which are absolute, and we are not.  The idea or…

The Absurdity of Unbelief

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, ….what is man that You are mindful of him? Psalm 8:3,4 Dear Ones: How is it possible that man, small and insignificant, in comparison with “…the moon and the stars, which You (God) has ordained,” stand up and blatantly say that there is no God? …

Laboring To Enter Into Rest

“…And you shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:29 Dear Ones: When Jehu was anointed by the Lord to be king over Israel, it was at a time of great corruption.  Ahab had been killed, and Jezebel  reigned in his place, though her son was officially the king.  She had been responsible for the…

Joy In The Morning

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5 Dear Ones: One of the great attractions of Christianity is the hope associated with it.  As our attention is constantly directed to the person of Christ, we have not only an idea of hope, but hope’s power and motive.  The Lord…

Coming Before God

“Enter His courts with thanksgiving and, into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4 Dear Ones: I heard the story once of a dear servant of the Lord, who, before she had her personal devotions in the morning with the Lord, would make sure that she looked her…

The Intervention Of God

“And there appeared unto him (Zacharias) an angel of the Lord standing on the right hand of the altar of incense.” Luke 1:11 Dear Ones: The account of events leading up to the birth of Christ is most extraordinary, as it reveals to us something of the uniqueness of God, and His ways.  The first…
