My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

The Singular Hope

“And I will give her her vineyards from thence and the valley of Achor for A DOOR OF HOPE: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth…” Hosea 2:15 Dear Ones: There are times in our lives when God permits circumstances which cause hope to grow thin.  Though our patient expectation…

Where Do We Live?

Dear Ones: The story is told of two Australian soldiers, on leave in London, England.  They got lost in the fog, and decided to just lean up against a lamp-post until the fog lifted.  A British general comes looming out of the fog, and offended that the Aussies did not solute him, stormed up to…

The Goal

Dear Ones: What is the greatest goal, the highest objective, towards which the whole tenor of our lives should be directed?  There is a hymn which puts it so clearly before us:  “My goal is God HIMSELF, not joy, nor peace, nor even blessing, but Himself, my God.”  But then you ask, “Am I to…

The Balanced Life

Dear Ones: The Apostle Paul, in writing to the Philippians, made many remarkable statements.   But there is one in particular which speaks of balance:  “For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.  I know how to be abased, and to abound: EVERYWHERE and IN ALL THINGS I am instructed both…

Worth And Service

Dear Ones: One of the resounding themes of heaven is the proclamation of the worth of God, and of the Lamb.  Why?  It is first of all a question of WHO God is, in His nature, and disposition of heart.  The word “holy” takes us to a level of considering God which supersedes all of…

Unchangeable Faithfulness

Dear Ones: When Jonah was in the belly of the fish he uttered a truth that is essential for us to grasp:  “They that observe LYING VANITIES forsake their own mercy.” (Jon.2:8)  What did he mean by this?  Jonah had a very real and truthful knowledge of God.  This is why he would say to…

The Day Of A Thousand Years

“…For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” Psalm 90:4 Dear Ones: How important is a day?  How important is it that the day be begun aright, and finished well? Lastly, HOW then is the day to be lived? In Psalm…

A Bag With Holes

“…He that earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” Haggai 1:6 Dear Ones: It is a very frustrating thing to try to fill a sac, and never be able to, because there is a hole in the bottom of it.  Such was the experience of Israel when, after returning from  exile,…

One’s Speech, One’s Preaching

“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.” Jeremiah 1:9 Dear Ones: When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church, He said a most marvelous, and powerful thing: “And my speech and my preaching was NOT with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power.” (1 Cor. 2:4) …
