My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

The Vision That Will Be

“And the Lord answered me, and said, ‘Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” Habakkuk 2:2 Throughout the New Testament there is a dominant theme concerning how the believer in Christ is to live…it is that of waiting for His Lord to come.  That coming may…

The Almighty God

“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love; He will joy over thee with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 We do not often consider that God sings, but He does.  We know that Jesus sang hymns with His…

The Great Eternal Purpose

“…that in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:7 What is the measure of God’s eternal purpose accomplished in us?  Paul declares it to be conformity to the image of His Son. (Romans 8:29) In his letter to the…

The Importance Of A Name

“Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.” Luke 1:13 John the Baptist was a miracle child, but then again, all children are miracles.  However, that which is peculiar to John the Baptist before he was born was that…

For With God Nothing Is Impossible

“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:1 Why is nothing impossible to God, in the will of God, for the glory of God? The answer resides in the meaning of…

The Basis For Assurance

“Having therefore brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh…” Hebrews 10:19 How can a sinner, one that has been saved by the grace of God, come into the presence…

For This Child I Prayed

“And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.” 1 Samuel 1:10 It is often out of the depts of the heart that real prayer is born.  And yet, it is God who, in His wisdom and love, brings the individual to pray with the whole heart, according to…

The Desert Shall Rejoice

“It (the desert) shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing…and they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.” Isa. 35:2 It was the Apostle Paul, who in speaking of the love of God, wrote: “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to…

The Debt We Owe

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit, offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14 There is an old hymn entitled, “Would You Be Free.” In that hymn, the great emphasis is on the power of the blood…

The God Who Speaks To The Heart

“The word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”  Jeremiah 1:4,5 It was a remarkable day when the Lord Jesus took Peter, James, and John “into…
