My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

Faith’s Blessed Calm

“…Be anxious for nothing…” Philippians 4:6 Dear Ones: In Annie Marston’s great hymn, “I Thank Thee, Lord,” she writes concerning the peace of God, and the experience of that peace: “I take Thee for my peace, O Lord, My heart to keep and fill, Thine own great calm, amid earth’s storms, Shall keep me always…

Standing And Overcoming

“…he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, …and the Lord wrought a great victory.” 2 Samuel 23:12 Dear Ones: If our worship of Jesus Christ in His glory, does not result in us “falling down” before Him because of being overwhelmed, we might wonder if we have “seen” Him as He…

Stability In The Storm

“…It fell not, for it was built upon a rock.” Matthew 7:25 Dear Ones: The Apostle Paul, in writing to the believers at Corinth, wrote:  “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 3:11)  The subject that Paul is addressing here is that of building an…

Chariots And Ministers Of Fire

“…Bless the Lord, …O Lord my God…who makes His angels spirits; His ministers a flaming fire.” Psalm 104:1,4 Dear Ones: The fire in the burning bush that Moses saw, and the fire revealed by the chariots and horses of fire that Elijah witnessed, …are the same in nature…they were of God…indeed, the revelation of the…

The Life Of Power In Christ

“For the preaching of the cross…unto us who are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18 Dear Ones: How is the preaching of the cross…the power of God?  And how does the answer to this question affect us where we live, for as long as we live, on this earth? Christianity is…

The Other-Worldness Of God’s Love

“…and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 Dear Ones: Many are the examples and expressions of love that we see in our world, from that of a mother towards her child, to the love of a spouse, a relative, or a friend.  Most of these expressions have their…

Solitary, But Never Alone

“…I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.” Isaiah 51:2 Dear Ones: It is very easy in our world to lose our point of reference for the answers to our existence, purpose, and power.  For Israel as a nation it was no different.  And so, to her the admonition would come:  “Look unto…

Conquering By A Covenant

“Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.” Joshua 3:11 Dear Ones: In God’s dealings with us, He never begins with our ideas or ways.  Why? First of all, He is God.  Secondly, He is all-wise.  Thirdly, He is love, and all that He does…

It Is Finished

“And ye are complete in Him…” Colossians 2:10 Dear Ones: True Christianity is a curious business, because it begins at the end.  Though the gospel was evident after the fall of man, and preached unto Abraham, yet the finality, and realization of the message did not occur until Jesus uttered those pivotal words on the…

The Beauty Of God

“…that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” Psalm 27:4 Dear Ones: Not long ago I saw a beautiful photo that an acquaintance had taken of a male woodduck.  The brilliant colors and the…
