My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

Anointed To Do Good

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38 Dear Ones: In John’s first epistle, he makes a most extraordinary statement, and we must remember that he is addressing all Christians…

Illogical Pride

“Wherefore He saith, ‘God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.’” James 4:6 Dear Ones: Concerning pride, David wrote in Psalm 138:6, “…the proud He knoweth afar off.”  Why is pride so abhorrent to God?  What truly is pride, from God’s standpoint?  There are at least two answers to these questions.  The first…

The Transforming Vision Of God

“And He (God) said, ‘I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee.’” Exodus 33:19 Dear Ones: There is a principle and promise in the matter of worshiping God which must be grasped.  The Apostle Paul writes:  “BUT WE ALL, with open face beholding…

Liberty To The Captives

“The Lord hath anointed Me (Christ)…sent Me…to proclaim liberty to the captives.” Isaiah 61:1 Dear Ones: Perhaps the most wonderful news about the Gospel is that God actually works in power through the truth expressed in it.  This is GOOD NEWS.  Paul declares that “…the gospel…the preaching of the cross…is the POWER of God.” (1…

God’s Immutable Calling

“For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance.” Romans 11:29 Dear Ones: What is the calling of God?  What is it’s significance?  At one point in the history of Israel, when she was wavering and had lost her way, the Lord through the prophet Isaiah instructed her to “Look unto Abraham your…

God Breathing Upon Us

“And when He (Jesus) had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, ‘Receive ye the Holy Spirit.’” John 20:22 Dear Ones: In the book of Genesis, we find, at the creation of man, that “…the Lord God….BREATHED into his nostrils the breath of life.”  Almost immediately after the resurrection, when the disciples…

The Hinge Of History

“And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, ‘I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? Of himself, or of some other man?’” Acts 8:34 Dear Ones: It was after Pentecost, the “great awakening,” that great blessing had come to Jerusalem and to Israel.  Persecution also had raised its ugly head, Saul of Tarsus taking…

Out Into The Warmth Of The Light

“I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12 Dear Ones: When Adam and Even sinned against God, instead of continuing to bask in the warm sunshine of the Father’s love, they retreated into the shadows.  Adam said it…

Believe In Me

“…ye believe in God, believe also in Me.” John 14:1 Dear Ones: Believing in Jesus Christ is NOT an easy thing to do.  It was not for the disciples who were closest to Him, and neither is it for believers today.  Why?  Most certainly it is because of LIMITS, our limits in the perception of…

The Imperative Of The Present

“I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4 Dear Ones: The importance of a “day” is remarkable, especially when one examines it with the backdrop of eternity.  Jesus was very conscious of the significance of a “day,” in that,…
