My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 Dear Ones: In the book of Isaiah, in reading of “…a child is born, and unto us a Son is given,” Isaiah adds: “…and the government shall be…
“….darkness was upon thee face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2 Dear Ones: One of the recurring tendencies in the thinking of men is that persistent comparing of oneself with another. With respect to creation, and the vastness of the universe, this is ever…
“…And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:4 Dear Ones: It is very possible to forget, or neglect, the great truth concerning “…so GREAT salvation,” which the Lord Jesus has won for all men. What is the extent of that salvation, and how much of it is to be operating in our…
“…but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.” John 16:22 Dear Ones: If there is one theme that envelopes and surrounds the events leading up to, and during, the birth of Christ, it is joy and gladness. When the angel of the Lord came…
“Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” Judges 6:15 Dear Ones: Christianity is diametrically opposed to humanism. It has been said that God cannot use many men today because they are too big. Why is it that, as Paul wrote, “….God has chosen the foolish things…
“And Jesus answering said unto them, ‘Have faith in God.’” Mark 11:22 Dear Ones: Probably the greatest affront to God is unbelief, or faithlessness. We see this in Jesus’ words in response to His disciples not being able to cure a father’s demon-possessed son: “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with…
“And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, ‘Be strong and of a good courage: for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them.’” Deuteronomy 31:23 Dear Ones: Many have been “great” men and women mentioned in the Bible, who accomplished great feats, in…
“Therefore thus says the Lord; ‘I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies; My house shall be built in it.’” Zechariah 1:16 Dear Ones: The Lord in Scripture goes to great lengths to reveal to us His ways, design, and will, with regard to that which is eternally sure and certain. Beginning specifically with Abel, to…
“…and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him.” Matthew 17:5 Dear Ones: If ever there was an event in the life of the disciples that would provoke a reaction, it was that which occurred on what is called, “the…
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.” Luke 15:23 Dear One: What is the value that God puts on a life? In the parable of the “prodigal son,” we are confronted with two…
