My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4 Dear Ones: What is God like? Though we see His handiwork in creation, catching a slight, but limited glimpse of His goodness in and through His creation, God is unlike anything we could…
“For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.” Galatians 6:15 Dear Ones: Many are the illustrations in the Word of God, which explain the basic issues of life and eternity. The Lord Himself would take the common, ordinary objects, practices, and cultural conditions of His day, to bring to…
“And he (Moses) said unto Him, ‘If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.’” Exodus 33:15 Dear Ones: The “manifest” presence of God is a very real issue. In John’s gospel, the Lord Jesus spoke these words: “…and he that loveth Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will…
“…You have left your first love.” Revelations 2:4 Dear Ones: If there is one thing that is impossible to do, it is to understand and comprehend God. In Bimney’s great hymn, “Eternal Light! Eternal Light!, he illustrates this point: “Oh, how shall I whose native sphere is dark, whose mind is dim, Before the Ineffable…
“And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray Thee, open his eyes, that he may see.” 2 Kings 6:17 Dear Ones: In the Apostle John’s first letter, he makes a most remarkable, and immensely important statement: “…greater is He that is within you, than he that is in the world.” (4:4) This short declaration is…
“…being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height.” And to know the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:17,18 Dear Ones: The Apostle Paul’s concept of the love of God was great for two reasons. The first had to do with…
“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2 Dear Ones: There are really only two laws which explain, and depict, our existence upon this earth, and for eternity. They are “the law of sin and death,” and “the law…
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18 Dear Ones: It is a strange thing that an instrument used to put one to death is to be a means to life. How can this be true,…
“Show me Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths.” Psalm 25:4 One of the great blessings of the life of faith is that God literally guides the believer. It is not just an issue of His sovereign hand working in circumstances to bring about His purposes, but to personally teach and lead the believer.…
“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin.” James 1:14 Dear Ones: Why is temptation, as mentioned in the Bible, a necessary subject to study? The answer lies not only in the context in which we live, a…
