My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon (Satan); and the dragon fought against his angels, and prevailed not…” Revelation 12:7 Dear Ones: If ever there was a verse of Scripture that reveals to us the “aggressive posture of faith,” it is this one which depicts “war in heaven”…
“His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not refrain.” Jeremiah 20:9 Dear Ones: When Moses approached the burning bush in the wilderness, he was intrigued by the fact that though it burned, it was not consumed. In other…
“Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord to Zechariah.” Zechariah 1:7 Dear Ones: The content of the “word of the Lord” is so very important, not only because it is spoken in perfect wisdom, justice,…
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusts in Thee.” Isaiah 26:3 Dear Ones: When the Scriptures speak of the peace of God, they take us to another realm, one where God is the very essence of that peace, and the only giver of it. Jesus made…
“…and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.” Genesis 28:12 Dear Ones: It is very amazing that God would give to Jacob, who lied to his father, and stole his brother’s birthright, such wonderful revelations…
“Get thee behind Me Satan: for it is written: Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.” Luke 4:8 Dear Ones: The importance of the worship of God, as mentioned in the Scriptures, cannot be neglected, or denied, without great peril to the soul and heart of the believer. When…
“Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.” Ezekiel 37:11 Dear Ones: Biblical “hope” has very little, or nothing, to do with the “hope” of this world. In its essence, it is an anticipation of the intervention of God, and the certainty of Him fulfilling what He…
“Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever.” Revelation 5:13 Dear Ones: In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses wrote concerning honor, that it is to be applied to the most fundamental relationship in the family, the honor that children are…
“…Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11 Dear Ones: We are apt to think that God’s closeness, and our awareness of His presence and power, is primarily revealed by great interventions in our circumstances, or in those of others. But in reality, when we consider that our greatest calling is to fellowship with…
“This is now the third time that Jesus shewed Himself to His disciples, after that He was risen from the dead.” John 21:14 Dear Ones: It is hard for us to put ourselves into someone else’s shoes by simply reading about their experiences, but let us try. Scripture tells us that for a span of…
