My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“…But without faith it is impossible to please Him.” Hebrews 11:6 Dear Ones: Why is faith so important, so prominent and fundamental in our relationship with God? “And such were some of you…” 1 Corinthians 6:11 Dear Ones: In the book of Hebrews, we find in chapter eleven, what some call the “Hall of Faith.” In the list of persons mentioned there, we do not find a single perfect person, except the Lord Jesus. What we do find is a broad spectrum…
“O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the Spirit of the Lord straightened (shortened)?” Micah 2:7 Dear Ones: How far is the “reach” of God? How much does He desire to do? Can we limit God by what do or do not do? And lastly, can we “quench” the moving of God,…
“Fear thou not for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee, yes, I will help thee, yes, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 Dear Ones: In one of Christ’s descriptions of the character and work of Satan, He said: …
“Remember how short my time is…” Psalm 89:47 Dear Ones: Every life, with regard to time and resources, IS an opportunity. The great questions are: “How will this opportunity be used and lived, and what is the dominating, lasting motive, that shall govern how we use it?” In the life of Abraham, God dealt with…
“And the Lord God prepared a gourd, and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head…” Jonah 4:6 Dear Ones: The story of Jonah is a remarkable narrative concerning the relationship between a prophet and his God. A great deal is revealed to us about this prophet, in…
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” 1 Corinthians 12:7 Dear Ones: What is the overall reason for which we come into this world, are given certain gifts and capacities, and primarily are brought to the place by redemption, where we can know fellowship with God? It is…
“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:13 Dear Ones: When the Apostle Paul was writing Timothy, his “son in the faith,” he spoke to him concerning his calling and responsibility. That “charge” was often mentioned in the context of “…the appearing of our…
“And Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it be You, bid me come unto Thee on the water.’” Matthew 14:28 As long as there is sin, there will be storms. Those storms may take various forms, and may vary in strength. They are declared “storms” because of the power that they possess, and the…
