My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Show me Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths.” Psalm 25:4 One of the great blessings of the life of faith is that God literally guides the believer. It is not just an issue of His sovereign hand working in circumstances to bring about His purposes, but to personally teach and lead the believer.…
“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin.” James 1:14 Dear Ones: Why is temptation, as mentioned in the Bible, a necessary subject to study? The answer lies not only in the context in which we live, a…
“The words of Jeremiah…to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah.” Jeremiah 1:2 Dear Ones: Whether it be concerning an individual, a nation, or even the creation of the world, the significance of the phrase, “…the word of the Lord came,” cannot be overstated. God NEVER speaks haphazardly, nor without…
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1 Dear Ones: Throughout the Old Testament, and certainly into the New Testament, much is said about the “good news” of the Gospel. It is news that is GOOD, because every aspect…
“Yet, I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18 Dear Ones: Where does stability come from in this life of faith? It is by looking at the One who IS what He IS, never changing, possessing the perfect qualities of the Divine. By looking up and…
“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.” 1 Corinthians 1:17 Dear Ones: There are many truths that pertain to Christ’s work of redemption, or that act, work, and process that He put in motion…
“Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?” Judges 6:14 Dear Ones: In Psalm 107, the Psalmist writes concerning the goodness of the Lord. He does so in regard to men who find themselves to be “in trouble.” In their distress, they…
“…But without faith it is impossible to please Him.” Hebrews 11:6 Dear Ones: Why is faith so important, so prominent and fundamental in our relationship with God? First, and foremost, it is because it is HIS way, by His design, that man can seek and find Him with assurance. Secondly, it is that principle and…
“And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 Dear Ones: If ever there was a passage in Scripture that brings us face to face with objective truth, the life of God,…
“And such were some of you…” 1 Corinthians 6:11 Dear Ones: In the book of Hebrews, we find in chapter eleven, what some call the “Hall of Faith.” In the list of persons mentioned there, we do not find a single perfect person, except the Lord Jesus. What we do find is a broad spectrum…
