My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5 Dear Ones: We often think of commitment in the context of our response to the call of God to follow Christ. This is a true and right concept, for what other valid response could there be…
“Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not); a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.” 1 Timothy 2:7 Dear Ones: Ordination by God is both general and specific. There is a “general” ordination of all believers, disciples of Jesus Christ, because the Lord…
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.” Matthew 17:5 Dear Ones: If you had the choice of knowingly hearing the voice of men, or the voice of God, which one would you choose to hear? The answer to this question lies in the character, nature, and disposition of…
“Behold My servant, whom I uphold, Mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth. I have put My Spirit upon him.” Isaiah 42:1 Dear Ones: What is it that distinguishes the Lord Jesus as a man from every other man who has lived? It is certainly not His outward appearance, as Scripture describes Him: “…He has…
“…and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” Matthew 28:20 Dear Ones: There are two facets of the issue of God’s presence that the believer must grasp if he is to live victoriously. The first has to do with the constancy of that presence. It was David who wrote…
“Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it.” Zechariah 1:16 Dear Ones: There is but one limit with God, and it is that which He imposes upon Himself. When God, through the prophet Jeremiah, told the people of Israel that they would be “…carried…
“And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.” Acts 7:22 Dear Ones: When Moses was in Egypt, up until, and around the age of 40, he was quite a man, from a human and worldly standpoint. We find that, as the adopted son of…
“If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.” Mark 9:23 Dear Ones: Christianity is a very active religion. There is nothing passive about it. This is not to say that there is not peace, and a “rest” of faith, for the Lord does lead us beside still waters, there to restore…
“The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God.” 2 Samuel 6:12 Dear Ones: David made a big mistake when he sought to bring the ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem in a manner that was not in conformity with the way of God. …
“…And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Ephesians 4:24 Dear Ones: Paul, in writing to the believers in Ephesus, wrote: “….But you have not so learned Christ.” (4:20) How have we “learned” Christ? Have we learned aright, and in a balanced way? Have we…
