My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“…For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that you came.” 1 Kings 13:9 Dear Ones, When the Lord through Moses brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, He did so in such a way that…
“Arise, and go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.” Jonah 3:2 Dear Ones: The story of Jonah is not really about a man who was called of God, sought to flee from God, and was swallowed by a fish. Though these facts are true, this is…
“And the government shall be upon His shoulders.” Isaiah 9:6 Dear Ones: Throughout Scripture, God is revealed to us as being Sovereign, All-Mighty, All powerful, and in every place. The concept of Him being our Creator and Redeemer is clearly kept before us. Essential in our consideration of Him, is the truth of Him being…
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 Dear Ones: How important is a word? In the case of Christ dying on the cross, and uttering, “It is finished,” I believe we can say with assurance that those words were eternally important…
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 Dear Ones: David, like Moses, often wrote and taught on the same subjects, those pertinent to consider with regard to our existence, and purpose, for being on this earth. One of those subjects which seems to surface throughout…
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” 2 Corinthians 10:4 Dear Ones: There is an old hymn which begins: “The Son of God goes forth to war, a kingly crown to gain.” Do we, as the hymn continues, “…follow in His train?”…
“Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these?” John 21:15 Dear Ones: Though we derive great encouragement and mutual edification from others in the body of Christ, there is never to be a time when we are to think that our individual calling is that of another individual. We may even be working…
“This cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you.” Luke 22:20 Dear Ones: There is perhaps no greater subject in the whole of the Bible than that of the precious blood of Christ. Why? There are at least two reasons, the first of which is found in the Father’s appreciation…
“…O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, ‘Why has Thou made me thus?’” Romans 9:20 Dear Ones: Ever since the fall of man, and his spiritual experience became what the hymn writer called, “…nature’s night,” his concept of himself and God became twisted…
“…and He showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God.” Revelation 21:10 Dear Ones: One way that the Lord uses to reach out to mankind so that all would believe, and trust Him, is by declaring something in the past, thousands of years before,…
