My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“…he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified and fit for the Master’s use.” 2 Timothy 2:21 Dear Ones: In the Old Testament, there are at least two stories which concern vessels which contain oil, specifically oil that one would use to make food. The first one has to do with Elijah and a widow…
“…our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world.” Galatians 1:4 Dear Ones: In the letter of Paul to the Galatians, he uses some very strong language concerning the preaching of “another gospel,” different from the true one. (Gal. 1:9) John, in the book…
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:2 Dear Ones: It was Watchman Nee who wrote that the Christian life begins with SITTING down, not running or walking. What did he mean by this? In sitting, it is as…
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3 Dear Ones: It is one thing to be blessed in heaven in Christ. It is quite another to know the blessedness of Christ in our hearts on this earth. …
“How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?” Joshua 18:3 Dear Ones: Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthians, spoke of Israel’s errors, as being an example of that which we are not to do, or pursue. All through Scripture we…
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” Ephesians 6:10 Dear Ones: The entirety of the Christian experience of victory has its roots in the matter of strength and power. What was the promise associated with Pentecost that was so essential for the disciples to understand if they…
“For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Galatians 1:12 Dear Ones: There is that of heaven and that of earth. There is that of God and that of man. The difference between the two is like the night being different from the day,…
“…the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in Me.” John 14:30 Dear Ones: In the field of engineering, one studies and prepares to solve problems of physics and chemistry, with regard to building and making physical things function. The basis for this lies in the foundation of math, laws of physics, and their…
“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 Dear Ones: In Jesus’ model prayer in Matthew 6, He uses the phrases: “…Our Father who IS in Heaven…,” and “…Thy will be done in earth, as it…
“…I pray for them also which shall believe on Me through their word; that they all may be one; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and in Thee…” John 17:20,21 Dear Ones: In the history of the evangelical movement, there has been what is described as “deeper life” teaching. Why was this so? It was…
