My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Proverbs 1:7 Dear Ones: In the Swiss alps, there is a peak called the Schilthorn. It is reached by boarding three separate cable cars. Upon its summit, or close to it, there has been built an observation point where one can look out over the…
“…by them is Thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.” Psalms 20:10 Dear Ones: God is a debtor to no one. On the contrary, He is what Scripture declares: “…a Rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6) What does this mean, and how does God reward? The first…
“…and the people did fear before the Lord.” Haggai 1:12 Dear Ones: What is revival from the standpoint of a nation, but also, of an individual? And what are the “means” by which revival comes, and is maintained in the life? In the book of Isaiah, we read: “And He saw that there was no…
“…From this day I will bless you.” Haggai 2:19 Dear Ones: The life of David was forever changed by a singular event when he was a young man. “Never man spoke like this man.” John 7:46 Dear Ones: What was it about the way and manner by which Jesus spoke, that was so arresting? In the gospel of Matthew, we read that the people were astonished at Jesus’ doctrine: “…for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” (7:29) …
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth, shall you not know it?” Isaiah 43:19 Dear Ones: We have established in past devotionals that “great things” according to God have their basis and essence IN God. John the Baptist was a “great” man. He was so because of the Holy Spirit…
“…but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press towards the mark …” Philippians 3:13 Dear Ones: What does an older soldier of the faith tell those who are younger who will be taking up the mantle, carrying on the testimony…
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4 Dear Ones: There is a monumental difference between “trying” to be happy, or joyful, and “rejoicing in the Lord.” Why? It all boils down to this: one attitude and action is based entirely upon FAITH, the other is not. What do we mean…
“I will sing unto the Lord as long as Iive: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.” Psalm 104:33 Dear Ones: The psalms are to a great extent, songs…songs which are sung in praise and worship of God, or of the experience of men before God, born in the great…
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John 15:7 Dear Ones: What characterized the prayer life of Elijah? From what James tells us in his epistle, it was one of effectiveness, and with great fervor, earnestness. We might…
