My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

The Race Set Before Us

“So run, that you may obtain.”  1 Corinthians 9:24 Dear Ones: The Apostle Paul wrote on several occasions concerning the subject of “running,” specifically, “running a race.”  But what is this race of which he spoke?  It is first of all an engagement, a commitment of all that one is and has, to attain an…

“O Lord God, Thou Knowest.”

“And this He said to prove him: for He Himself knew what He would do.” John 6:6 Dear Ones: In all of Jesus’ dealings with individuals, He is ever seeking to bring the to faith in God, or increase their faith.  There is a procedure He follows in doing this, and we see it in…

The City Set On A Hill

“Ye are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14 Dear Ones: The calling of the Christian is a most extraordinary one.  It is one whereby God has entrusted His glory to the person who will truly believe in Him, live according to the truth, and let that light of LIFE shine powerfully before men.  Why…

As Christ Forgave Us

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48 Dear Ones: In the book of Isaiah, the contrast is made between our thoughts and ways, and those of God.  Isaiah writes:  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways,…

Eyes Towards Heaven

“These words spake Jesus, and lifted His eyes to heavenward, and said, ‘Father…’” John 17:1 Dear Ones: That which makes this prayer of Jesus so very important, and life-changing, is the fact that it is being prayed just before His betrayal and crucifixion.  What would one pray if he or she knew that only a…

The Single Soul’s Calling

“To him the porter openeth and the sheep hear his voice; and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.” John 10:3 Dear Ones: In this world, with an increasing number of people, we are apt to be “lost in the crowd.”  Especially, if we are living in an urban area, and…

Divine Pardon

“Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Matthew 6:12 Dear Ones: Throughout Scripture we find the attempt by man to explain that which is of God.  Of course, the Lord Jesus is the Master Teacher in this regard, for not only does He give us the truth, but in essence, breathes upon it…

The Servant’s Heart

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 Dear Ones: One of the most humbling aspects of the Christian life is the reality, and realization, of the eternal God working in the heart and mind of the believer.  In our “modern” perception of…

Delighting And Rejoicing In Christ

“Then thou shalt delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth…” Isaiah 58:14 Dear Ones: One of the saddest effects of Adam’s sin concerns the subject of “delighting.”  What does it mean to “delight thyself?”  Most certainly, there is the element of knowing satisfaction,…
