My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“…and who knows whether you are come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14 Dear Ones: All through Scripture we find the concept of the existence of God before the creation, and before “tomorrow.” With that idea comes the truth of “predisposition,” a wisdom beyond our comprehension concerning time, the past,…
“And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.” Judges 8:4 Dear Ones: One of the great rules and laws of the harvest is that, “…in due season we shall reap, IF we faint not.” (Gal. 6:9) Endurance, and the quiet, patient…
“Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord sees not as a man sees; for the man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 Dear Ones: Certainly, the ways of God are not those of…
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock.” Matthew 7:25 Dear Ones: One of the great reasons for which David was such a great man, in spite of his failures, was that he was a…
“And the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 Dear Ones: The Apostle Paul was probably one of the greatest intellectuals of his day, and yet, he would write of something that he knew, and experienced, but could not explain or understand. This is…
“…the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to the saints.” Colossians 1:26 Dear Ones: On one occasion, when Jesus was speaking to His disciples, He said: “…many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and…
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.” Isaiah 41:10 Dear Ones: What is the cause of fear and anxiety? Probably we can simplify the answer by mentioning two causes, the first being that of “loss,” and the second, begin that of “suffering.” With regard to both,…
“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5 Dear Ones: In the book of Proverbs, we discover a most simple, yet profound declaration: “As a man thinketh in his heart, SO IS HE.” (23:7) The importance of what we put in our minds, as well as our attitude of…
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 Dear Ones: The God of the Old Testament is the same as of the New, for Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. In light of this fact, it is safe, and…
“I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone.” Song of Solomon 5:6 Dear Ones: The book of the Song of Solomon is a most extraordinary picture of communion, first of all as it pertains to Solomon and his bride, but also to Christ, and His church. There is no…
