My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Matthew 16:26 Dear Ones: One’s perspective of life and its realities is very important. That perspective will be based on one of two things, men’s “thoughts and ways,” as opposed to those of God. Humanistic philosophy looks…

“…And I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.” Zechariah 3:7 Dear Ones: In the book of Hebrews, we are brought face to face with what is called “…so great cloud of witnesses.” The Bible says that we are compassed about, or surrounded, by them. These are that innumerable multitude of…
“You have sold yourselves for nothing; and you shall be redeemed without money.” Isaiah 52:3 Dear Ones: If ever there was proof of a good and gracious God, it is declared and revealed to us in the word, “redemption.” Upon this word hangs the entirety of the meaning, purpose, and end of man. The word…
“Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6 Dear Ones: Perhaps one of the greatest weaknesses we have is “anxiety.” The reasons for this are several, the first of which is found in our sin nature, that nature that we…
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles.” Isaiah 40:31 Dear Ones: The context of the entire chapter 40 of Isaiah deals with the word of comfort, and consolation, by God to Israel. Israel had provided God with almost every conceivable reason for Him…
“‘Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,’ saith the Lord.” Haggai 1:8 Dear Ones: Ecclesiastes tell us: “To every thing there is a season, and a TIME to every purpose under the heaven.” (3:1) In the history of…
“…Let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.” Isaiah 54:2 Dear Ones: If there is one thing that the Gospel teaches us, it is the concept of “expanding capacity.” What do we mean by this? When the Lord Jesus was seeking to teach His disciples…
