My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth.” Isaiah 43:19 Dear Ones: When Jesus was going to feed the five thousand, He turned to Philip and asked: “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (Jn. 6:5) Scripture tells us that His purpose in doing this was “…to prove him…
“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5 Dear Ones: Walking with the Lord is a matter of certainty. This is why He is ever calling us in our walk to commit matters to Him. Commitment means several things in this regard. First it…
“…Yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.” Galatians 2:20 Dear Ones: In two of Jesus’ parables, or illustrations to teach us the meaning of “newness,” He speaks of new wine put in old wine skins, and new cloth sewed to old clothing. In both cases, He speaks of that which is NEW being put…
“…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 Dear Ones: The first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, stepping into history and planting His cross, is that very declarative statement by God that He is coming again. He came once, subject to the weaknesses of…
“O God, Thou art my God…my soul thirsts for Thee…” Psalm 63:1 Dear Ones: There are priorities of life. David would write: “ONE THING have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty…
“…come up in the morning unto Mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.” Exodus 34:2 Dear Ones: Probably one of the great assets that Moses possessed, which propelled him forward to become the man he would become, was his thirst and consequent pursuit of God. There are those…
“The government shall be upon His shoulders…of the increase of His government, and peace, there shall be no end.” Isaiah 9:6,7 Dear Ones: When Jesus came to this earth, He came proclaiming “the kingdom of God, of heaven.” Why? Because where He reigns, rules, and is the supreme authority of our lives, His goodness is…
“And I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last.’” Revelation 1;10,11 Dear Ones: Sometimes it only takes one glance at some object, or person, to change a life forever. We do not know how much, or how long, or…
“I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.” John 14:18 Dear Ones: Scripture tells us that God “…raised Christ from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places.” (Eph. 1:20) Paul goes on to say that He is above all “principality and power, might and dominion,”…
“…and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.” 1 Kings 19:19 Dear Ones: The calling of God is just that…the call of God to an individual. It is personal, immeasurably important, and all-encompassing. God had spoken to Elijah to “…anoint (Elisha) to be prophet in your place.” (1 Kings 19:16) The day…
