My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…” James 1:5 Dear Ones: It is not without significance that when Isaiah describes the Spirit of God “resting” on the Messiah, He speaks of Him as being the “Spirit of wisdom and understanding.” (Is. 11:2) Why? We need to keep in mind that every…
“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” Isaiah 11:2 Dear Ones: When Isaiah wrote, “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the word of our God shall stand forever”…
“And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” Luke 4:1 Dear Ones: One of the fruits and expressions of the Holy Spirit is joy. Jesus spoke a great deal of His joy, and that which He has provided and chosen for us…
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 Dear Ones: When the Lord Jesus spoke of the “wide gate, the broad way,” as opposed to the “narrow gate and way,” He spoke of a opening, an opportunity, and route of life, that is the lesser…
“…The Spirit Himself makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:26 Dear Ones: Scripture is quite clear with regard to our ignorance of what we truly need. This is, in part, due to our lack of capacity to understand all things. Another reason has to do with our fallen, selfish nature, which puts “self” in the forefront…
“Behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all the places where thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.” Genesis 28:15 Dear Ones: God uses the most unusual, and least considered individuals…
“Woman, where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you?” John 8:10 Dear Ones: In the Apostle John’s first epistle, he writes: “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.” (1 Jn. 3:20) Condemnation is a terrible thing, for the effect of it is the removal of…
“O king, live for ever, My God hath sent His angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths.” Daniel 6:22 Dear Ones: If ever there was a time when the reality of God’s presence and intervention was manifested, it was when Daniel was alone in the den of lions with only an angel between him and…
“And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, ‘How long are you slack (tardy…late) to go to possess the land, which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?” (Joshua 18:3) Dear Ones: In the book of Hebrews, we find an exhortation that is so very important. “Let us therefore fear, lest a PROMISE…
“And when she saw him (Gabriel), she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this should be.” Luke 1:29 Dear Ones: There is a short phrase in Scripture, which is used several times to convey the sovereign “timing” of the revealing of God’s works and purposes. It is: “In the fullness…
