My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

The Knowledge That Changed The World

“And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, ‘I have found the book of the law (…of the Lord given by Moses) in the house of the Lord.’” 2 Chronicles 34:14,15 Dear Ones: Rare are the singular events in history that have changed it.  But sometimes, there is one thing that alters the course…

The Wasted Life

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Matthew 16:26 Dear Ones: Perhaps one of the saddest commentaries of our world is that it is a place of immeasurable “loss.”  It is true that there is great benefit living in this world, and perhaps, in…

Heaven On Earth

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 Dear Ones: When Jesus came to this earth, He had no illusions as to what awaited Him.  If we go back to the beginning of the Bible, we see again that, before the…

The Gift Of Power (Authority)

“And ye shall receive power (authority), after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you.”  Acts 1:8 Dear Ones: Where does the power to live come from?  The first thing that we must consider in order to answer this question is the issue of authority.  Why is authority so important in relation to power?  Authority…

This Day

“Give us THIS DAY our DAILY bread…”  Matthew 6:11 Dear Ones: How important is a day, “this day?”  If we look at it only from a human standpoint, a matter of just living it or getting through it, then we miss the whole point of it, and certainly the vision of its enormous importance.  However,…

Our Father’s Idols

“Take thy father’s oxen…and throw down that altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it.” Judges 6:25 Dear Ones: When God called Abraham to leave his home in Mesopotamia, in order to bring him into Canaan, the promised land, He most certainly did so in order to…

Climbing Higher

“…That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and REVELATION in the knowledge of Him.” Ephesians 1:17 Dear Ones: How does one climb higher in the Christian faith?  We know that the foundational principle which governs our lives is that of FAITH in…

The Way Must Be Taught

“Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths.”  Psalm 25:4 Dear Ones: Why is it that Moses, a most extraordinary man of God, very intellectual and strong, would make it a centerpiece of his prayer life to pray, “Show me Your way, that I may know You.” (Exodus 33:13)  How is it that…

The Song In The Heart

“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19 Dear Ones: It is quite logical that if the Holy Spirit is in the heart, and the fruit of the Spirit’s presence and action is “love, joy, and peace,” then it is certainly…

The Weight And Remedy Of Shame

“For the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:2 Dear Ones: In the great hymn, “Full Salvation! Full Salvation,” we find these tremendous words:  “Care and doubting, gloom and sorrow, Fear and SHAME are mine…
