My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Remove your way far from her, and come not near the door of her house: lest you give your honor to others, and your years unto the cruel.” Proverbs 5:8 Dear Ones: In the book of Daniel, we read concerning “the time of the end,” that “…knowledge shall be increased.” (12:4) What kind of knowledge…
“Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have, I give to you.’” Acts 3:6 Dear Ones: In the story of Elisha and the widow’s oil, as recorded in 2 Kings 4:7, we discover a most remarkable principle, and certainty, with regard to paying one’s debt. The story is told…
“…when you pray, enter into your closet (room), and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:6 Dear Ones: What is that thing that means most to God? It is the love and respect of His…
“He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:3 Dear Ones: One of the great values of the Psalms is that they are a testimony of experiences lived, especially as they relate to knowing God. In…
“And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2 Dear Ones: We have a tendency to disassociate the teaching on the Spirit of God in creation from that of the “outpouring” on the day of Pentecost in the New Testament. In one sense, we do this to our peril, for…
“And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, ‘I have found the book of the law (…of the Lord given by Moses) in the house of the Lord.’” 2 Chronicles 34:14,15 Dear Ones: Rare are the singular events in history that have changed it. But sometimes, there is one thing that alters the course…
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Matthew 16:26 Dear Ones: Perhaps one of the saddest commentaries of our world is that it is a place of immeasurable “loss.” It is true that there is great benefit living in this world, and perhaps, in…
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 Dear Ones: When Jesus came to this earth, He had no illusions as to what awaited Him. If we go back to the beginning of the Bible, we see again that, before the…
“And ye shall receive power (authority), after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you.” Acts 1:8 Dear Ones: Where does the power to live come from? The first thing that we must consider in order to answer this question is the issue of authority. Why is authority so important in relation to power? Authority…
“Give us THIS DAY our DAILY bread…” Matthew 6:11 Dear Ones: How important is a day, “this day?” If we look at it only from a human standpoint, a matter of just living it or getting through it, then we miss the whole point of it, and certainly the vision of its enormous importance. However,…
