My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

The God Who Speaks Today

“Today, if you will hear His voice…harden not your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7 Dear Ones: One of the great messages of Genesis 1, where we are looking at the creation of the world and universe, is this:  when God speaks, there is a result.  This is a consistent principle and reality seen throughout Scripture, spanning thousands…

The Secret Of The Lily

“Consider the lilies of the field how they grow;  they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all of his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Matthew 6:28-29 Dear Ones: In one of the stanzas of the “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” we…

The World-Changing Vision

“And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.  And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, ‘Fear not; I am the first and the last.’” Revelations 1:17 Dear Ones: One of the great proofs of Christianity, and the veracity of Scripture, is the fact that the followers of…

The Point Of Beginning

“In the beginning God…”  Genesis 1:1 Dear Ones: In these very few words in Genesis 1:1, there is a world of meaning, with regard to our existence, purpose, and means of living.  Why does the Bible begin with God before the consideration of all else?  When Job was confronted by God, with regard to giving…

In His Grip

“…I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”  Joshua 1:5 Dear Ones: In Matheson’s great hymn, he begins with these words:  “O Love, that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee, I give Thee back the life I owe, That in Thine ocean depths its flow, May richer, fuller be.” …

The Overwhelming Goodness Of God

“And He said, ‘I will make all my goodness pass before you.’” Exodus 33:19 Dear Ones: There is always the human tendency to blame God for all that is wrong in the world, especially when it comes to suffering.  And yet, the testimony of Scripture is so very clear:  “And God saw every thing that…

The Keys Of The Kingdom

“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 16:19 Dear Ones: What is the kingdom of heaven?  The key to beginning to understand the term is to begin with the “King of Heaven.”  This was the great discovery by Nebuchadnezzar, who at one time was the greatest king on this…

Anointed To Do Good

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38 Dear Ones: In John’s first epistle, he makes a most extraordinary statement, and we must remember that he is addressing all Christians…

Illogical Pride

“Wherefore He saith, ‘God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.’” James 4:6 Dear Ones: Concerning pride, David wrote in Psalm 138:6, “…the proud He knoweth afar off.”  Why is pride so abhorrent to God?  What truly is pride, from God’s standpoint?  There are at least two answers to these questions.  The first…
