My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5 Dear Ones: One of the great attractions of Christianity is the hope associated with it. As our attention is constantly directed to the person of Christ, we have not only an idea of hope, but hope’s power and motive. The Lord…
“Enter His courts with thanksgiving and, into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4 Dear Ones: I heard the story once of a dear servant of the Lord, who, before she had her personal devotions in the morning with the Lord, would make sure that she looked her…
“And there appeared unto him (Zacharias) an angel of the Lord standing on the right hand of the altar of incense.” Luke 1:11 Dear Ones: The account of events leading up to the birth of Christ is most extraordinary, as it reveals to us something of the uniqueness of God, and His ways. The first…
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 Dear Ones: Moses was a very wise man. He was conscious of the value and importance of time. Of course, his perspective was always with eternity in view. What then does he do in light of the limits…
“And the Spirit began to move him at times…” Judges 13:25 Dear Ones: When Jesus was speaking to Nicodemus, He declared very clearly that when the Spirit works, and is moving, there are TANGIBLE repercussions. One might not know from where the wind is coming, but one KNOWS that it is blowing. When George Whitefield…
“And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.” Jonah 2:10 Dear Ones: There are a great many folk who do not believe in the story of Jonah being swallowed by a fish. And yet, there are accounts of such an event happening with other people. What is…
“Thou shalt worship the Lord Thy God…” Matthew 4:10; ” “…Send me unto Judah, that I may build it (the wall).” Nehemiah 2:5 Dear Ones: There was no altar in the Garden of Eden, for there was no need for a reminder of Who God was, and the work of Christ on the cross to…
“…who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well.” Psalm 84:6, “And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope.” Hosea 2:15 Dear Ones: Life is filled with valleys, as well as mountains. Sometimes those valleys are like the valley of Baca, a…
“And ye are complete in Him (Christ), which is the head of all principality and power.” Colossians 2:10 Dear Ones: At the beginning of the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he makes a most bold and remarkable statement: “But of Him (God) are ye IN Christ Jesus, who of God IS MADE UNTO…
“…And with His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:6), “Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them.” (Jeremiah 33:6) Dear Ones: Christianity is so remarkably different from every other religion that has ever existed simply because it begins with what has been perfectly, completely finished. The life of a Christian…
