My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“…And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him at times…” Judges 13:25 Dear Ones: When the Spirit of the Lord moved upon the “face of the waters” in Genesis 1:2, there was not only that action of the Spirit, but the resulting reaction of creation. When the Spirit of the Lord came upon…
“…And the dragon was angry with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed.” Revelation 12:17 Dear Ones: When Jesus was standing before Pilate, he declared to him: “…My kingdom is not of this world…My kingdom is not from here.” (Jn. 19:36) First of all, what did the Lord Jesus…
“It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:26 Dear Ones: It has been said that in true preaching, one begins with Christ, and leaves his listeners WITH Christ. And so, we begin this morning with the example of Christ, and this, with regard…
“And he (Moses) gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, ‘Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.” Deuteronomy 31:23 Dear Ones: It has often been surmised that victory is won…
“He that goes forth, weeping, bearing precious see, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:6 Dear Ones: In our day and time, there are many who think that believing in God, in Christ, is an anomaly, that which is not normal. However, the contrary is true. It is the…
“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Corinthians 9:10 Dear Ones: It has been said that, “… one cannot outgive God.” This is almost an absurd statement, not because of the truth of it,…
“…Be not faithless, but believing.” John 20:27 Dear Ones: Faith is the fundamental principle, even the foundation, of one’s relationship with God. It’s source, and example, is in the “faith-filled” nature of Christ. When Christ walked this earth, He was not only full of faith, but “faith-filled” at every moment. If we look at the Father,…
“…Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me.” Nehemiah 2:18 Dear Ones: As far as I can tell, nowhere in the book of Nehemiah does he say, “The Lord said to me,” or “…the word of the Lord came to Nehemiah.” Instead, we find that Nehemiah was fully…
“…Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee…I sanctified thee…and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 Dear Ones: We do not know how old Jeremiah was when the Lord spoke these words to him. What is so very significant about this declaration is the fact that it is all-encompassing…from…
“Simon, son of Jonas, do you love Me?” John 21:16 Dear Ones: Why is it that Christ puts so much emphasis on the matter of love? The simple answer is that He IS love…and the highest expression of His nature and character is love. However, we discover in Jesus’ dealings with Peter, He makes a…
