My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
Dear Ones: The Apostle Paul wrote several tremendous prayers in his epistles, one of which is found in Philippians 1:9-11. It is very interesting to note the parallels in Jesus’ instructions on prayer, and those found in Paul’s, are very similar. Both men are facing the possibility of death, Christ facing his crucifixion, and Paul…
Dear Ones: It has been likened unto a race, and a fight. It has also been described as a walk and a state of mind and heart. It is that period of time between the present moment and the moment when we will be ushered into the presence of God, and time will be no…
Dear Ones: In speaking of the last days, the Lord Jesus makes a statement that is very sobering: “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” (Matt. 24:12) If there is one thing that is absolutely central to the Divine Purpose and Will, it is that the love of God be…
Dear Ones: There are “sign posts” in Scripture, but then there are “salient features.” These salient features are those most significant and strategic points on a battle field, which are essential to the success of the campaign. In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he states what these features are, and then summarizes them in…
Dear Ones: The spectrum of visible light to our eyes is very minimal. The limitations of understanding what we see are very real. So that, when it comes to believing God to lead us, we are entrusting to Him the knowledge (enormous and trued…) of all that we cannot see, understand, or perceive. This is…
Dear Ones: There is perhaps no more interesting figure in the Bible beside Christ, than Elijah. We know little to nothing about him before he comes on the scene as a prophet, at a time of great spiritual darkness, and wickedness in high places. He was a very striking figure, in appearance, but also in…
Dear Ones: In this spiritual warfare in which we find ourselves, there are victories and there are casualties. It can be a vicious struggle at times, as our enemy is a ruthless foe. However, in every consideration of this conflict, we always begin with our Captain, the victorious Christ. He has defeated all of our…
Dear Ones: The call to follow Christ is a call to communion with God. But it is also a call to follow the Captain into conflict…a very real invisible war. From the Garden of Eden, to the contesting of Job, to the resisting by Satan in accusing Joshua the High Priest, to the temptation of…
Dear Ones: Scripture tells us that our God is a God of peace. By “peace,” we do not mean passivity. But we do mean that God gives a blessed calmness of spirit, soul, and body, which is beyond our understanding, and capacity to produce in and of ourselves. Let’s go back and look at the…
Dear Ones: In every consideration of any and all subjects pertaining to life, to understand what is not only right and wrong, but also, good and wholesome, we begin with God and Him alone. We come back again and again to the fact of God existing before creation, and by creations, He alone is the…
