My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

“And he (Mordecai) brought up Hadassah, that is Ester, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful.” Ester 2:7 Scripture admonishes us to not despise the day of small things, for it is in and through those small, apparently insignificant things, that God works most wonderfully. …
“I will sing of mercy, and judgment unto Thee, O Lord, I will sing.” Psalm 101:1 Singing is a wonderful way of worshipping God, remembering the great truths of Scripture, and God’s works and blessings. One of the reasons for which the Psalms in the Bible are so useful, and inciteful in the knowledge of…
“Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.’” Acts 2:6 It was Charles Wesley, who in one of his hymns wrote: “Jesus, the name high overall, In hell, or earth, or sky: Angels and…
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 It was Charles Wesley who wrote a hymn, and prayer, on the subject of the heart: “Oh for a heart to praise my God, A heart from sin set free, A heart that’s sprinkled with the blood, So…
“And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.” Isaiah 22:22 In the Bible we discover mentioned “gates” and “doors.” These are common words, which represent physical things, but which, in a spiritual context,…

He…
