My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“…Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” Philippians 3:12 The spirit of the Apostle Paul was that of a thoroughbred. There was nothing less than being wholly committed, and determined, to…
“Every good gift and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17 One of the great sins mentioned in the context of the wrath of God being revealed, is thanklessness. Why? What do we have but that we…
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass.” Matthew 24:6 Why is it that “wars and rumors of wars” must come to pass in the last days? As in the case with every nation that has fallen under the…
“With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Luke 22:151,6 (NASV) It was the celebration of the Passover when Jesus met with His disciples in an upper…
“And they sung a new song, saying, ‘Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” (Revelation 5:9) When God was to deliver the people of Israel out…
“Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.” Matthew 4:10 In the vision that God gave to Isaiah, in the year that King Uzziah died, he saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, “…high and lifted up, and HIs train filled the…
“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.” 1 Timothy 1:5 Blessed be God for that inner provision, and mechanism, of the Spirit by which God gives to man to realize that first, there is a Creator and a Redeemer, but…
“The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, ‘Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.’” Jeremiah 31:3 It was G. Matheson who wrote, “O Love, that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee, I give Thee back the life I…
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15 When John the Apostle wrote the Gospel of John, and penned the phrase, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten…
“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” Genesis 18:25 How can one reconcile the fact that God is, as Abraham declared, “the Judge of all the earth,” and yet, Jeremiah would declare: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every…
