My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:9 The Christian life begins with a great declaration from the cross of Calvary: “It is finished.” What was finished? We know that first of all it was God’s finished work in…
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 In the Apostle Peter’s second epistle, in speaking of God’s power which has given unto us…
“And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, he said, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.” Exodus 41:51 In the epistle to the Hebrews, we find a tremendous verse which speaks to us of how to run a race, a race that has been set before…
“How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the Lord God of your fathers hath given you?” Joshua 18:3 The conquest of Canaan was certainly long and difficult, though tremendously successful because of the Lord who was with Israel and fought for her. However, there came a time when the people…
“And I saw heaven opened, and beheld a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war.” Revelation 19:11 It took God almost the entire life of John the Apostle to bring him to the point where He could reveal His glory…
“Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.” Numbers 22:31 In the book of Numbers, we find a story that calls our attention to…
“After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, ‘Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” Genesis k15:1 In the book of Isaiah the Lord gives us a clear picture of what we can do if things become unclear, or we lose our vision…
“Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters.” Isaiah 43:16 In John’s gospel, the Lord Jesus declares that He is the only WAY to knowing God. His “ways” revealed in Scripture are perfectly in conformity with Christ, HIs nature, perspective, and purposes. There are the…
