My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“… ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.” 2 Corinthians 3:3 If every believer is an epistle, or letter, written by God, then what constitutes…
“I must work the works of Him that sent Me while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4 If ever there was an individual who was focused on his work, mission, and objective, it was the Lord Jesus. From the moment He stood up in the synagogue in Nazareth,…
“…who knoweth if He will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind Him?” Joel 2:13 We have only to look at Psalm 107 to discover how man can so easily find himself in very difficult circumstances, and states of mind, where there is no other place to look but up to God, and appeal…
“…and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest Him of the evil.” Joel 2:13 Jonah and Joel must have gone to the same Bible college, for their vision and knowledge of God was…
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14 The justice and righteousness of God, in all of its wisdom and applications to the lives of men, is perfect. Yet, in that word “perfect” we have difficulty…
“Come now therefore, and I will send thee to Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth My people the children of Israel out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:10 There is a great hymn, written by G. Matheson, one stanza of which is this: “O Love, that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in…
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” Matthew 24:45,46 At the beginning of almost every letter written by the Apostle Paul, we find a…
“And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent.” Matthew 27:51 In the Old Testament, by the work and teachings of Moses, God gave to Israel a picture concerning God’s way for man, by which he could come…
“I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and He that believeth on Me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 Over and over again, in the Lord Jesus’ treatment of the subject of Him being the bread of life, He brings to the forefront of one’s consideration that it was…
“This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5 When John the Apostle wrote his first letter, he was a very old man. He had seen a lot in his day, so that his…
