My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Therefore, I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Mark 11:24 Prayer is not a hit or miss proposition in the sight of God. The Lord Jesus makes this very clear when He speaks so specifically of receiving that for which…
“…I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.” Joel 2:28 When the Apostle Paul wrote to the believers at Corinth, he spoke very clearly concerning his “speech and preaching.” In doing so, he…
“For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy saluation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.” Luke 1:44 In the letter to the Hebrews, we read concerning “…the race set before us,” (12:1), that we are to look unto Jesus, “…the author and finisher of faith; who for the…
“If any man will come after Me, leet him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23 Communion, from a time standpoint, can be broken down into seconds, minutes, hours, and days. The issue of the “day” is very important, because there can be much that transpires in the day…
“After that He (Jesus) poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith He was girded.” John 13:5 It is a remarkable scene when we see Jesus with His disciples, gathering for the last supper, knowing full well that He would be soon departing…
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the Law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 In the fortieth chapter of the book of Isaiah, we read where the Lord gives a vision of Himself to Israel. Isaiah writes: “Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the…
“And Moses stretched froth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength, when the morning appeared, and the Egyptians fled against it; and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.” Exodus 14:27 The Lord can accomplish great, and unanticipated, things in a very short period of time. …
“And it came to pass, that in the morning watch, the Lord looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of the fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians.” Exodus 14:24 It was a very anxious night for the children of Israel who had come to the specific…
“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalm 37:4 The great value of a good tool is that in using it, one can accomplish wonderful things, even great things. Faith is not a tool, but faith is a means by which much can be accomplished in…
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 One of the greatest aspects of the Christian faith is that it is very practical, and in some regards, very simple. From a practical standpoint, it is so because of the essence of faith itself. Scripture tells us…
