My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Colossian 3:2,3 It was Charles Wesley who wrote in one of his great hymns the following: “Let nothing now my heart divide, Since with Thee I am crucified, And live…
“If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25 In the Apostle John’s book of Revelation, he has a vision of the Lord Jesus Christ in His glory and power. That which characterized John in order for this to occur is revealed to us by the following declaration: “I…
“And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, ‘Loose him, and let him go.’” John 11:44 In the story of the death of Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, and him being brought back to life, there…
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.” Amos 8:11 Our concepts of spiritual revival usually revolve around the manifestations of such movements of the Spirit. There is…
“In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, ‘Ask what I shall give thee.’” 2 Chronicles 1:7 In a very real way God gave to Solomon a blank check, and instructed him to fill it out. It was at the same time an opportunity for great blessing, but moreso, it was…
“Go ye, enquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us.” (2 Kings 2:13 It was the Apostle John, in the Gospel of John, who wrote: “He that…
“…and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13 Throughout Scripture the believer is faced with an extraordinary paradox. How can a God, All-Mighty though He be, speak with such simplicity to an individual’s heart, and bring…
“But now, thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel, ‘Fear not for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art Mine.” Isaiah 43:1 In the experience of Joshua the son of Nun, who was the successor of Moses, there came a…
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Galatians 4:31 What is true freedom, and where did it begin? There are many kinds of freedom, and various origins from a human standpoint. But in order to even begin to speak on…
“And He said unto them, ‘I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enenmy.” Luke 10:18,19 The Lord Jesus told His disciples on one occasion, that He was sending them forth as sheep among wolves. The…
