My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto Thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.” Psalm 27:8 Probably one of the greatest neglected realities of the Christian life is the call of Christ to the individual heart to true, and profound communion with God. Why is this so? The great teachers and…
“…And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Ephesians 3:19 What does it mean to be filled with all the fulness of God? And is it possible for the redeemed, saved sinner, to be filled? The answer to the first question is…
“Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, and He that formed thee from the womb…,” “…that confirmeth the word of His servant, and performeth the counsel of His messengers.” Isaiah 44:26 Why was the Spirit of God poured out at Pentecost upon all flesh? There is not doubt that it was not only a declaration of…
“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” Hebrews 11:8 When Abram lived in Ur of the Chaldees, his family, in particular his father, blended in with the culture of his day, as…
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder.” Isaiah 9:6 One of the most remarkable passages in Scripture that reveals to us, not only the love and goodness of God, but also His power and authority over His creation, and His kingdom,…
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1 True Christianity is very selective. Indeed, the Lord Jesus was so in that He only acted, worked, thought, and taught according to the eternal truth…
“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 If there is one way that the Lord reveals Himself, His presence, and His power to us, it is in the area of provision. David put it most simply: “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall…
“Then Spake Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people, saying, ‘I am with you,’ saith the Lord.” Haggai 1:13 That which appears to be at the origin of every godly change is the matter of the Lord speaking. Why? It is because there is power and authority in His words. His…
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prapare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.” Luke 3:3 When John the Baptist came on the scene of history, he came “…in the spirit and power of Elias (Elijah).” (Luke 1:17) His message was similar to that given to Jeremiah, whose objective was…
“…for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.” Judges 13:5 Many have been the sermons preached on the life of Samson, his calling, demise, and final victory, but few have dealt with the root cause of Samson’s…
