My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.
“Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” Psalm 24:7 In Psalm 24, David answers his own question concerning the identity and essence of God by asking: “Who is this King of glory?” He then answers by writing: “The Lord…
“The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: He shall cry, yea, roar; He shall prevail against His enemies.” Isaiah 42:13 We have a tendency in our day to seek the Lord Jesus only as the very approachable, meek and lowly Christ, who came…
“And om My servants and on My handmaids, I will pour out in those days of My Spirit; and they shall prophesy.” Acts 2:18 There is a very simple formula for studying the Bible. The formula itself is nothing unless one comes to God in faith, with an undivided heart, made clean and pure by…
“Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.” 1 Samuel 17:13 There is no doubt that as a young boy, and into early manhood, the Spirit of God was working in the heart of…
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 It is the quiet before the storm when Jesus speaks to His disciples concerning “tribulation” in the world, and of the world,…
“Behold My servant whom I uphold, Mine elect, in whom My soul delighteth. I have put My Spirit upon Him: He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.” Isaiah 42:1 Throughout Scripture we are confronted with the concept and practice of being a servant. It is interesting that when the Lord addressed Joshua, He spoke…
“…And when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat…” Joshua 6:5 In the conquest of Canaan, Jericho was the first obstacle and challenge in the path of Israel. That which was not apparent to the naked…
“Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.” Isaiah 51:2 Where does faith come from? We know that it is a gift of God, but do we know what our role is to be so that faith can be received, and…
“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.” Daniel 2:44 In Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a statue,…
“Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.” 1 Kings 18:38 The spiritual life of the people of Israel in Elijah’s day was at a very low ebb. Under the reign of Ahab…
