My wife and I served as evangelical, protestant missionaries in France for eleven and a half years, after which I became the pastor and director of a Christian school in a French-speaking evangelical church, L'Eglise Evangelique de Saint Jerome, in Quebec, Canada. After serving in Quebec for five years, we then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I became the pastor of the First Evangelical Church of Greenville. In 1995, we moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where I eventually assumed the management of the family business, and remained there until 2012, when our family moved to Meridian, Idaho. My wife and I have six children. These short devotionals are born out of the loss of one of these children in particular, with the hope and prayer that they will serve to encourage and inspire those who read them in their walk with Christ. God bless you all, and may we finish well the race set before us.

O Lord, Thou hast ordained them for judgment; and O mighty God, Thou hast established them for correction.” Habakkuk 1:12 The moral and spiritual conditions in Israel, in Habakkuk’s day, were similar to those in our world today. Habakkuk…
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 There is the very real tendency to look at the matter of sin from man’s perspective, rather than that of God. Man, in his evaluation…
“And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand.” Joshua 5:13 Whether in service or worship, the God who has called us in His faithfulness to fellowship with Him, and…
“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” Galatians 6:14 There is an old hymn entitled, “The Old Rugged Cross.” There are also physical crosses that folk wear around their necks, often to testify…
“…and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.” Ephesians6:16 In the letter of Paul to the Ephesians, he speaks frequently of a “mystery.” This mystery is something that has been hidden, unknown before, but now manifested, or revealed. …
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.” John 1:12 There are many parallels in Scripture. Perhaps none is so clear, simple, and yet, lifechanging as that which exists between believing on the Lord Jesus Christ to be…
“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5 It is one thing to know the Scriptures; it is quite another to live by them. And yet, there is but one way to truly know the God of the Scriptures, and it is obedient faith…
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.” 2 Corinthians 10:4 In Paul’s first letter to Timothy, he addresses the nature of the conflict and warfare that the…
“But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” 1 Corinthians 1:30 It was Charles Wesley, who in his great hymn, “Come, Jesus, Lord, With Holy Fire,” wrote: “Let nothing now my heart divide, Since with Thee I am crucified, And live…
“‘And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness,’ saith the Lord.” Jeremiah 31:14 The greatest pursuit that a man can have is that of pursuing God, to know Him. Why? Primarily, it is because of the word that reveals that He is “holy.” …
